This campaign saw a team of expert agriculturalists, astrobiologists, planetary scientists and farmers setting out to prove that the potato holds the key to future survival on other planets. Originally devised as a PR stunt, it led to the development of a new ultra-sturdy strain dubbed 'Unique', which NASA will take on its Mars mission in the 2030s. Back on Earth, it's already been deployed in areas on Earth stricken by climate change.
