Entry Summary
In 2016, ESPN, a worldwide reference in terms of sports content, was going to import the portal ESPNW, a digital platform with the objective of representing women in sports. This launch arrived in the country in a delicate atmosphere, with an ideological crisis in terms of gender equality.We should launch campaign that would be sympathetic to the theme’s nuances. Something that could show how much women are involved with sports, proving ESPNW’s relevance. An example that justified this emerging need was Marta, who was recently recognized as the athlete that scored more goals wearing Brazil’s jersey in history, more than Pelé. However, women’s performance in football and other sports go largely unnoticed.The objective was not only create awareness but also generate identification and engagement from women that do not feel represented or that feel underestimated lots of times. All of it in a provocative and truthful manner.
Brief Explanation
The power of women in society, especially in sports, is still underestimated. So we decided to make people think about this worrisome truth in a spontaneous way, in a social experiment.In a bus stop, using a digital interactive billboard with voice recognition we prompted people with the question: “How much do you know about sports?” Then, we showed a series of animations of famous sports moves without identifying the athlete responsible for the performance. Then we asked: “Who was responsible for this move?” Everyone remembered the name of famous male athletes such as Neymar, Messi, Jordan, Bryant, Medina and. But when we revealed the original scenes, there was a surprise: women were the sportspeople. At the end the billboard showed the message that gave food for thought: “You might even know about sports, but if you didn’t get the answers right, you need to learn more about women’s power”.
